Gaining more blog traffic, a 30 day adventure in blogging

As a blogger, the number one thing to remember is that content is king. It’s probably the most often heard phrase in the blogging world. You have to have high quality content if you’re going to gain repeat readers. You have to provide something that is unique to you, to your experiences and to your perspective.

The second most important factor in the world of a blogger is traffic. What’s the point of writing all that content if nobody is reading it? Driving traffic to a new blog is critical to its success and, if you’re trying to earn an income from your efforts, it’s essential to your bottom line as well.

There are literally thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of blog posts and articles on this topic. A Google search for “building blog traffic” just returned over 16,000 results, so you do the math on the different search phrases, there’s a lot of information out there, unfortunately, most of it is completely inaccurate, if not down-right bad advice. (some of the best advice I’ve seen is detailed in this article on Blog Herald, so do please check it out.)

With this in mind, I’m embarking on a 30 day journey to see what kind of differences I can make to the blog traffic on 2 of my blogs. The first is of course this blog, which is a great test bed, since my traffic here is nearly nonexistent at the moment. The second blog I will be focusing on is my food and recipe blog, Cooking …by the seat of my Pants! CbsoP has a dedicated readership with a very steady number of visitors, which makes it a great test case for increasing traffic to an established niche blog.

Tomorrow I’ll post traffic specifics, and what I’ve got planned to improve readership to both blogs.  I’ll be employing the same tactics for each, to keep the test as fair as is possible.

Be here fellow bloggers!  Same blog-time Same blog channel!

Good luck! I hope your experiment work and if it does, do let me know. I may copy your tactics! Right now, my traffic is so so and I am telling you my secret. I just go over to any Tom, Dick and Harry’s blog and leave an address and an invitation, like this:

Welcome to my beautiful world at http://steptpg.blogspot.com

Pretty cheap tactic, yeah? But, it works! You do come over!

footiam,

That’s not really a recommended tactic unless you’re leaving relevant comments, and the link back in the comment itself is unnecessary, as a link to your site already shows up attached to your name, but thanks!

As I say, It’s a cheap tactic. You are right about the link back. It’s a habit of mine I guess, very cheap, cheap tactic! Ha! Ha!
