More Thoughts on PayPerPost vs. Page Rank

As promised, here’s part two in my ongoing reserch concerning PayPerPost and page rank.

Not many people seem to be screaming very loudly. AffiliateWatcher.com posted these thoughts concerning the latest move by Google. I tend to agree that there is little or nothing a blogger or even a group of bloggers can do to change the way the big “G” does business. They own the search engine, they make the rules, even though they don’t penlize themselves for doing th same thing they penalize others for.

Is it fair? No, but then business, especially multi-billion dollar business, has never been “fair”.

Andy Beard shares his thoughts on the recent Google updates with his usual insight, and like most, he’s not exactly happy about it. Andy had apparently been penalized a bit for using followed links in posts he’s made regarding companies he’s written about over the past 12 months.

If this is the case, I suppose I’m just going to have to accept the fact that all of my page rnkings are going to fall, since I’m a firm believer in NOT using nofollow tags. I can accept the validity of these tags, especially on huge sites where spam creeps in and skews rankings, but the fact is, all of my sites are fairly small, and I feel that the folks commenting on them deserve a little link-love from me for their effort. Also, if I’m writing an article and decide to link to someone from said article, it’s because I liked what they had to say, and I wanted to give them credit for it.

In the end I think this trend has just begun, and we’re all just going to have to ride it out. If you’re using PayPerPost, good news is coming. The new Argus release should shift dependency from pagerank to their own tracking system, though I’m not positive just how well Argus is going to perform over their current system.

All is not lost, however. With PayPerPost now llowing 3 posts per blog per day, there is still potential for earning some extra income. Just be sure that you’re putting up a ton of good content as well if you’re going to go that route. It’s also a good time to look into affiliate programs and other alternatives for making a few dollars off of your blog. If affiliate sles can earn the same amount as PayPerPost, you’ve just doubled your money with less than half the work. Not a bad plan at all.
